ACRi CFD SOFTWARE
ACRi has been in CFD software development for about 40 years. Back then, tens of thousands of lines of FORTRAN code were fed into computers using punch cards. Not to mention that those humongous machines had a small fraction of the capabilities of a typical laptop computer of today's college students.
The computer industry has come a long way since then, so have ACRi software family. In the past 40 years, the family has grown from a Navier-Stokes solver to a suite of solvers and environments for a wide range of applications. The members of ACRi CFD Software family are:

CFDStudio® is the newly designed development environment for ANSWER and PORFLOW solver suits. It is much more than just a "Graphical User Interface", as it incorporates the preprocessing, execution and postprocessing steps into one single platform. Visit CFDStudio® home page to learn more about this exciting new technology.
Easy to learn and use:
Our software technology is designed to eliminate C or FORTRAN programming by the user. This technology allows our clients to:
- Define arbitrary number of new variables and solve user defined algebraic or transport equations
- Use built-in library or assign analytical and/or tabular user-defined functions to sources, boundary conditions, fluid properties and/or field variables
- Employ using English language any arbitrary:
- Boundary Conditions
- Initial Conditions
- Sources
- Field variables
- Fluid Properties
- Use a wide range of physical sub-models for turbulence and combustion
- Use a wide range of choice of solvers
The general form of input for ACRi software can be examined in FREEFORM™ Examples to observe the aforementioned features of simplicity and flexibility.
Information on the data format for unstructured files for all ACRi CFD Software can be found at Unstructured Grid File Format.
So what are these "wide range of applications" anyway?
Fluid Dynamics and Combustion: ANSWER® has been developed for solution of the Navier-Stokes, the Boundary Layer and the Convective Transport equations including chemical reactions, combustion and turbulence. ANSWER® is being used by a large number of commercial, academic and research organizations in a number of countries. As it covers a wide range of applications -hence the reference "General Purpose CFD" - it is the most popular member of the ACRi software family.
Ground Water: PORFLOW® is a versatile and tested model for practically any subsurface flow system for analysis of coupled flow, heat and mass transfer, radioactive decay, chemical reaction and phase change. It is used extensively by the U.S. Department of Energy and other government agencies in US and the rest of the world. One exemplary application is the Yucca Mountain Project (www.ymp.gov) where -upon recommendation of Secretary of Energy Mr. Spencer based on years of research - President Bush considers qualified for a construction permit application, taking the next in a series of steps required for approving the site as a nuclear materials repository. Yucca Mountain Project has been a long time user of PORFLOW®. Visit PORFLOW® home page for links to other high profile clients and applications, as well as an extensive list of publications.
Surface and Marine Waters: TIDAL® includes a wide range of tested models for analysis of large scale water bodies. It is being used by a large number of commercial, academic and research organizations in a number of countries.
Atmosphere: A range of models for analysis of single stacks or multiple sources, regional air bodies with complex terrain and variable meteorology. These include the highly successful RADM™ model which is one of the 6 non-guidelined models reviewed by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for license applications.
Tools: Contains excutable getHostId files required to submit host id information enabling usage of ACRi Software products. TOOLS contains executable files for Windows and Linux users.
